Behind the image

This photograph was taken on my last evening in Serengeti. We had stopped near a rocky outcrop where this lion was resting above us, watching quietly from a distance. What began as a tense moment — helping another safari vehicle that had become stuck nearby — turned into one of those unforgettable encounters where patience and attention reveal more than expected.

From the roof of our vehicle, I noticed another lion pair farther away that no one else had seen yet. We later found our way to them, and for a short while, we had the scene almost entirely to ourselves before other vehicles arrived. This image remains tied to that final evening and the feeling that Serengeti still had one more story to give.
